Buy with Tullochs FAQ

Here’s what people ask us about how to buy with Tullochs Auctions Tasmania

How can I buy with Tullochs?

We hold weekly online timed auctions with all items available for inspection so buyers can bid with the confidence of having seen the goods, at their own pace from where ever they are- avoiding the risks of crowds! We also run quarterly Classic Car & Petronalia Auctions (with no seller’s commission charged!) and other specialty auctions as needed. All our auctions are online, with a pre-bidding phase. On auction evening the bids are extended if there is activity in the last few minutes, so it’s more like a live auction than eBay.

How do I see what I can bid on and buy with Tullochs?

Have a look at our online catalogues here , you can even bid as the catalogue builds, with lots added until the day before the auction. You can have a sticky beak at anything you want to inspect in our emporium in the Boags Brewery Precinct.
Wednesday 9 am-4.30 pm is our dedicated viewing day, but the showroom is also open to the public Thursday, Friday 9 am-4.30 pm & Saturdays 9 am-2 pm.

How often are auctions held?

On Wednesdays we auction!
Every Wednesday (excepting that week between Christmas and New Year’s day, when no one knows what’s what…) Tullochs holds an online auction with antiques, art, rugs, cars, jewelry & much more.
The pre-bidding opens the week before, so you can bid on things as soon as they are catalogued.
We also hold Classic, Survivor, Prestige & Sports Car auctions featuring petronalia, signs & motorcycles every season. We add specialty auctions throughout the year, If you sign up for our newsletter you will get all the goss as it happens!

How do I register to bid?

It’s super easy, there’s a link at the top right or you can click on bid on an item or register on the auction page. Once you have signed up for an account, you only need to sign in for subsequent auctions, making it easy to buy with Tullochs.

How do I bid?

Once you are registered & made any inspections /inquiries to your own satisfaction, click on “bid” on the item. You can either bid the next amount, or auto bid by placing the maximum you are willing to bid at this point. The amount with buyer’s premium will display, & you will be reminded bids are binding, click through and you are done!
If there is a reserve & your maximum bid is at least equal the bid will go to the reserve. The item will go onto your watch list & you can alter your preferences in your account to get the notifications that suit you.
Do read the terms and conditions of sale before bidding, yeah?

I didn’t read the terms and conditions, or the description of the auction or the item itself, or the warning that all bids are binding & I have changed my mind about the bid I placed for some reason- will you withdraw my bid?

No. Please don’t do this. It’s a breach of the terms of bidding and can result in us revoking your bidding & selling privileges.

What happens when the auction ends?

Your invoice will be available in your online account & you should receive an email notifying you of the same (if not-Check your notification preferences- you may have unchecked the box)

I didn’t receive an invoice, but I think I was the winning bidder… why is this?

The item may have had a reserve, and your bid may have not reached this amount. If you know that your bid was above the price estimate it is likely you have unchecked the ‘invoice available’ notification in your account. Sign in and check your invoices online.

How long do I have to pay and collect my items?

When you buy with Tullochs you have two days after auction to pay and collect. Payment into Tullochs Trust account via direct deposit is preferred but we will accept cash, EFTPOS, Visa & Mastercard- these last two incur a 1.5% surcharge.

How do I get my items?

You can collect Thursday, Friday 9-4.30pm & Saturday 9-2 pm if you have no other option.
If you are collecting something hefty, make sure you bring someone to help, as Tulloch’s team members aren’t responsible for loading & securing goods. Please let us know if someone is collecting on your behalf. You must ensure they have a copy of the invoice, & are aware that they will need to pack the items for transport.
If you have items that will fit into a 500g satchel we can post them at your expense. Please be aware it’s a courtesy to help you out, your request is put on a list to be processed with everyone else’s, & Tullochs isn’t responsible for postage provider delays or damage.
If you need items couriered we suggest you contact Pack & Send Hobart for a quote, we have collaborated with them for special rates for Tullochs Customers. You are welcome to choose your own trusted courier but please let them know that packaging is their responsibility.
Items need to be collected promptly within two days or a storage fee of $12 will apply.

HALP! I forgot to bid & the auction was last night, how can I see if the item sold & what if it didn’t…can I buy it?

Absolutely, we can sell any item that has been through auction and didn’t reach the reserve, after auction by negotiation.

Your description said this item worked or was a totally different thing, what can I do?

Goods sold at auction are not covered by the Australian Consumer Guarantee as Auctioneers are agents for the vendor, but we aren’t in the business of swindling anyone, so if we goofed in our description by saying something was working when it wasn’t, or something is misdescribed (and inspection & photos didn’t reveal this prior to bidding) & it’s our mistake we will refund your money. Simple.
