Buyers FAQ
In the Launceston CBD at 3-7 George Street in the “Boags Brewery Precinct”.
Tuesday to Friday 9am-4.30pm and Saturday 9am-2pm.
We are closed Mondays to finalise weekly auction catalogues.
Every Wednesday night, excepting one week between Christmas & New Year!
We also conduct specialty auctions sporadically throughout the year.
We received items to auction from sellers every day, which we research, value, and then add to our auction system so that they are in our next scheduled weekly online auction.
Buyers can inspect/view the items in our emporium and bid on these treasures online. Once there is a winning bidder, that buyer pays for the items, and we then pay the seller – it is pretty straightforward really!

Yes, all our auctions are conducted online.
This enables you to bid from the comfort of your home, office or even when you’re out and about on your phone! You can also leave bids at our office, see ‘Can I bid without an online account’ FAQ below.
Weekly auctions are timed. They work in much the same way as live auctions did, though now you don’t have to be there! Once the auction commences, the online bidding system manages the sale of each lot in number order, commencing final countdown at 7.30pm every Wednesday.
Each lot opens with the highest bid that has been placed during the pre-auction period and a countdown starts. Bidders have the option of bidding “live” in the final moments of each lot. If a live bid is recorded, the lot countdown starts again and this repeats until all bidders are silent - then the highest bidder wins the lot.
We do not conduct valuations unless it is for items that are being consigned into our auctions.
Established since 1980, we have built a stellar reputation for auctioning everything from antiques, vehicles, collectables, vintage, and modern items to general household goods!
We have listened to our buyers and now offer a service that is both easy and fun! From conducting sales in between auctions, to having lot images available online with zooming capabilities. There is open space in our warehouse for ease of viewing, and our registration and online bidding process is really simple.
Through our weekly online auctions, specialty auctions or alternatively, we also offer sales in our emporium for any items that have gone through the auction system and not reached reserve.
When buying with Tullochs, there is a buyer’s premium of 16.5% (including GST) on every piece. This is a premium that all auction houses charge, which helps keep our doors open and assists us in working with sellers to ensure we have new items each week to buy!
The only difference is on vehicle purchases, the buyer’s premium on these is.
* Sold Price $1 to $3,999 = 16.5% (including GST) per vehicle
* Sold Price Over $4,000 = 9.9% (including GST) per vehicle
We upload a catalogue online every Thursday - it’s a ‘living catalogue’, which means we continually add lots until it is completed, usually every Saturday.
Specialty auctions can be uploaded anytime throughout the year!
At our emporium on George Street. Tuesday and Wednesday, from 9am-4.30pm are our dedicated viewing days for the entire auction catalogue each week.
But, once an auction lot goes online with photographs, it is viewable! So really, you can inspect items at any time, with our showroom open to the public Tuesday to Friday 9am-4.30pm and Saturdays 9am-2pm.
Yes, any items that have gone through the auction system and not reached reserve, can be purchased though our emporium.
Head to our website and click on the auction button, which will take you to the auction software. On the top right of the page, click on the LOGIN/REGISTER tab and follow the details – that’s it, you are now able to bid!
Once you have signed up for an account, you only need to LOGIN in for subsequent auctions, making it easy to buy with Tullochs!
PLEASE NOTE – When entering your information on this form, please do not use nicknames or fake email/postal addresses, as it inhibits the system verifying you as a real person. This information is secure.
Ensure you read our Terms and Conditions that appear when registering, as all bids and sales are binding.
As soon as the auction catalogue goes live online (which is usually every Thursday) you can bid on items. This is called the pre-bidding phase, until Wednesday night when each auction item closes.
Once you are registered and have made any inspections/inquiries to your own satisfaction, LOGIN via our website and click on “BID” button on the item. You can either bid the next amount shown on the item, or auto bid by placing the maximum amount you are willing to bid at this point.
The amount with buyer’s premium will be displayed at the bottom, and you will be reminded again that all bids are binding. Check your bid, confirm the amount is correct and you are done! The item will automatically go onto your watch list.
PLEASE NOTE – The only change to above will be if there is a reserve on an item. If there is a reserve and your maximum bid amount is at least equal to or over, your bid will automatically go to the reserve amount as your first bid.
Please ensure you read our Terms and Conditions as all our sales are binding.
Absolutely - Pop in and see us to complete an 'Absentee Bid' authority form!
You fill it out with your maximum bid amount, which is the highest amount of money you want to pay, and we enter this into our system.
PLEASE NOTE – If there is a reserve on the item and your maximum bid amount is at least equal to or over, your bid will automatically go to the reserve amount as your first bid.
The system is designed to automatically bid against other bidders on your behalf, up to the maximum you have authorised. The system is not designed to 'bid you up' - it offers as little of your money as necessary to win your lot.
Unfortunately, as per our Terms and Conditions all bids/sales are binding and cannot be undone. This is a breach of contract and can result in your bidding and selling privileges being revoked.
The only option available to you, is that upon payment of your winning items, we can then receive these items as consignment from you and re-auction them on your behalf.
Please be respectful to our staff if you have an issue, we will do our best to try and assist!
LOGIN and check your online account - if you have won any items, your invoice will be available in your account. You should also receive an email notifying you of the same.
If you don’t see an invoice, check your spam folder or alternatively, check notification preferences on your online account and make sure the ‘winner notified’ and ‘invoice available’ notifications are ticked.
This could be due to the item having a reserve, and your bid may have not reached this amount, or it could be an issue with the preference on your account in our system!
If you know that your bid was above the reserve, please check the preferences on your online account and make sure the ‘winner notified’ and ‘invoice available’ notifications are ticked. It’s good practice to check your invoices online in case your invoice goes to spam!
If there is still an issue, please Contact Us!
All winning bidders have STRICTLY two days after completion of the auction to pay, usually by 4.30pm on the Friday following the auction.
Payment into Tullochs Trust account via direct deposit is preferred (details listed on your invoice), but we accept cash, Eftpos, Visa & MasterCard (these last two incur a 1.5% surcharge) in person at our emporium.
PLEASE NOTE – We do not accept credit card details over the phone as a payment method. Any nonpayment of invoices will result in items being re-auctioned and bidding and selling privileges revoked.
Winning items can be collected through our emporium at 3-7 George Street, up to 2pm on the Saturday following the auction, unless the location is different, or it requires postage (this will be stated on the lot).
The days available for collection following each auction are:
Thursday and Friday - 9am-4.30pm
Saturday - 9am-2pm
Please ensure that if you are collecting something heavy or awkward, you bring someone with you. Tulloch’s team members are not responsible for lifting, loading or securing your goods.
We understand that life happens and sometimes things are out of our control – if you can’t collect your winning items before 2pm on the Saturday following the auction, then please Contact Us!
If we know, we can help. If you do not contact us, a storage fee of $12 a day will apply and MUST be paid before items are released – so, it is a good idea to let us know!
We are only able to post items that can fit in a 500g postal satchel.
If you have something larger that you would like posted, we have partnered with Pack and Send Hobart please contact them directly. Make sure you mention you are a Tullochs customer!
Yes, we have the last two months available for viewing on our website. Go to the ‘AUCTION’ button on the menu and then you will see another button ‘VIEW PAST AUCTIONS’. Click this and it shows you the results for previous auctions.
Due to the number of auctions, we conduct – only the last two months are viewable!
Jump online and as per above, go to ‘VIEW PAST AUCTIONS’. This is where you can look up the lot and see if the item sold. Alternatively, Contact Us, and we can check the auction system and see if it sold or whether it is available to buy outright!
